PrayerMinistry

Purpose

The purpose of Prayer Ministry is to engage in intercessory prayer, educate ourselves and others about prayer and grow deeper in our own personal prayer lives.

What is Intercessory Prayer?

Prayer undergirds the church. Intercessory prayer is praying, pleading with God on behalf of some one else. Intercessors are individuals who fervently and urgently pray for the welfare of others and take the petitions of others to the Lord.

The Bible is filled with many examples of intercessory prayer in both the Old and New Testaments. Abraham stood before God and pleaded on behalf of the people of Sodom. (Genis18:20-30). Moses pleaded with God not to visit disaster on the Israelites. (Exodus 32:11-13). Daniel pleaded with God to forgive the people of Judah, Jerusalem and all of Israel. (Daniel 9:4-19). Nehemiah prayed over the destroyed temple and the sins of his people. (Nehimia1:4-11).

In the New Testament, we find that Jesus prayed for His followers. (John 17: 6-26). From the cross, Jesus prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34). The Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus, serves as an intercessor on our behalf, praying for us. Paul tells us at Romans 8:26-27 that: “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”

As he fell on his knees dying, Stephen cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." (Acts 7:60). The new Church prayed earnestly for Peter when he was jailed. (Acts 12:5-12). Paul prayed for the Ephesians (Ephesians 1:16-17, 3:14-20) and the Philippians. (Philippians 1:9-11). Epaphras wrestled in prayer on behalf of others. (Colossians 4:12). Paul asked the Hebrew church to pray for him and those with him. (Hebrews 13:18-19). James told the sick to seek the prayers of the elders. (James 5:14-15).

As intercessors, we go boldly to the throne of grace seeking God’s mercy and grace and His help in the time of need on the behalf of others.

Education on Prayer

Members of the Quest Prayer Ministry periodically attend workshops to learn more about prayer.

Spiritual Growth in Prayer

Members of the Prayer Ministry are seasoned prayer warriors. We realize that we are doing battle on behalf of others. In order to keep ourselves prepared, we seek to grow deeper in our own Spiritual prayer life. We periodically attend retreats to gird up ourselves as we step onto the battlefield.

Intercessory Prayer Service

The Prayer Ministry holds Intercessory Prayer Service every Third Sunday. We gather together to touch, agree and pray on one accord for others.

Prayer Cards, Online Prayer Requests

Prayer cards are available at the Welcome Center. You may complete one or more prayer cards and place it in the Prayer Receptacle during altar call each Sunday. The Prayer Ministry prays over these petitions throughout the week.

Online Prayer Requests

The Scriptures exhort us to share our requests with others as well as to pray for others.

Paul wrote to the Philippian Christians,  “Be careful for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil 4: 6 -7).

However, he also tells us that it is also God’s will that we pray for each other! In his letter to the church of Ephesus, Paul wrote, “Praying at all times in the Spirit, with prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.” Eph. 6:18.  The Apostle James, in his epistle, wrote,  “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray one for another that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Js. 5:16.

We trust that you will take the opportunity to share your requests here for us to join you in prayer.

What does the Bible say about prayer? Prayer is the way in which we communicate with God.
